Brandy Land

“Claret is the liquor for boys; port for men,” ol’ Doc Johnson once wrote. “But he who aspires to be a hero must drink brandy.”

Your chance to be that hero: Rhine Hall, the city’s first and only family-run brandy distillery, now open in West Town and offering private tours and tastings.

Tucked away in the West Fulton industrial corridor, Rhine Hall is an airy, white-walled drinking parlor equipped with a custom-built copper still that churns out small batches of brandy and grappa.

Run by a father-daughter team, Rhine Hall mashes, ferments, distills and bottles on-site.

Their signature spirit: a delicious, colorless apple brandy that’s smooth enough to sip straight and 100% distilled from Michigan-sourced apples.

Warm up with a flight, which’ll include oaked variations and special one-off varieties, or sip on concoctions like brandy and homemade cider on the rocks or apple cinnamon brandy hot toddies.

Then take a bottle home.

Because that’s what a hero would do.
