Chicagoan Kim Knoll’s Watercolors Will Bring Life to Your Empty Walls
Just say no to those tired IKEA prints
The key to a well-appointed home? Fill it with things you love.
Including the largest open space and possibly one you’re not thinking enough about in that home: your walls.
If you’re staring at four blank canvases, it’s time to acquaint yourself with the sophisticated paintings of Kim Knoll, the Chicago native who alongside her husband Kyle Eermoed runs graphic design studio Knoed Creative. (Knoll; Eermoed. See what they did there?)

Portmanteaus aside, Knoed Creative is behind the design strategy of some of your favorite local businesses, including Gene’s Sausage Shop and Jayson Home. They’ve received countless accolades, most recently in Newcity’s marquee design issue.
We’ve had our eye on Knoll’s original watercolor paintings, but it was only earlier this month that she launched a dedicated site containing all of her work.
As for the work itself, Knoll’s paintings are the perfect stroke of abstraction. And her paintings will go a long way in making your home feel perfectly put together, no matter your style.
Says Knoll: “Being surrounded by the buzz of city life makes me seek out calm and stillness through painting. Using a mix of watercolor paint, India ink and paint markers, each painting is inspired by an element of nature. I create things I’d want to see in my own home; things that bring a sense of peace or wonder.”
We suggest buying an original work, which are all hand-numbered, but it’s worth nothing Knoll offers all of her paintings as prints in different sizes.
