To get truly quiet noise-canceling headphones, you no longer need to settle for an enormous over-ear model like you’re some airport runway traffic worker. Sony has packed its industry leading muting tech into tiny wireless earbuds, which offer longer listening time than Apple’s ubiquitous AirPods, and two of them are discounted from their original price on Amazon.
Of course, audio wizardry can only go so far in the year 2020, so you’ll still have to make a choice about what type of experience you want.
There’s the Sony WF-1000XM3, which is down from an original $230 to just $178. The model is widely considered to be one of the best, if not the best, noise-canceling wireless earbud on the market, offering a rich sound quality that’s unexpected in such a compact device. However, there is no heavy duty sweat or water resistance built-in. If you’re looking for a pair of workout earbuds, you’ll want to get the Sony WF-SP800N, which has been cut to $148 from its original $200 price. These have an IP55 water-resistance rating, and Sony notes that they can even be rinsed, so no matter how sweaty you get these will still pump that expertly curated running playlist directly into your brain.
