Trailer for New ‘It’ Film Confirms Clowns Are Still Terrifying

Oh you thought you outgrew that phobia? How cute.

Man, weirdest episode of Baskets ever!

But seriously, the new trailer for It — the adaptation of Stephen King’s evil clown opus — looks legitimately hair-raising. Since the book is being divided into two films, part one here focuses on the seven children terrorized by Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) in the cursed town of Derry, Maine.

Given the troubles getting the new film off the ground — original director Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) dropped out before filming started, the original miniseries adaptation is still revered (at least for Tim Curry’s iconic take on Pennywise) and there’s that one WTF troubling scene from the book — we’re pleasantly surprised by the first preview. And legitimately freaked out.

It will be released on September 8th.
