Lorde covers Vogue Australia’s October 2017 issue, photographed in Sydney by Nicole Bentley and styled by senior fashion editor Kate Darvill.

The musician is preparing for her Melodrama World Tour. She sat down with Vogue to talk about leaving her teenage years, learning how to cope with success, and the goal of “making music that stands the test of time.”

The singer tells Vogue that she felt overwhelmed by being dubbed the “teenage perspective.” She said that she felt she couldn’t “be everybody’s voice.” She did say that it was very flattering for her music to become a wider thing because originally it was very specific and personal.

Lorde is now 20-years-old and says that the current album reflects a new chapter in her life. She moved away from home and split up with her boyfriend of three years. She told Vogue that the period was so creative she couldn’t write it all down fast enough.
