Some Wise Guy Just Filed a Presidential Campaign for One Dwayne Johnson

One man has started a flurry of speculation about the 2020 presidential election.

As the The Hill reported, a West Virginia fella named  Kenton Tilford filed paperwork this past weekend with the Federal Election Commission to make Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson a 2020 presidential candidate.

Filed by the “Run the Rock 2020” organization, the FEC record doesn’t indicate what, if any, connection there is between Johnson and the committee, but who cares?

The fact of the matter is Johnson has about the same political experience as the man currently sitting the Oval Office doodling dollars signs on presidential stationery. And that’s not just our opinion. According to Public Policy Polling, Johnson would “lead Trump 42/37 in a prospective contest, and win over 15% of people who supported Trump last fall.”

Whether he’s a Republican, Democrat or Independent, Johnson is the kind of guy who will bring people together — just ask the millions of people who helped The Fate of the Furious rake in almost $100m in the U.S. during its opening weekend (don’t ask about Baywatch).

While there’s no way to know if he’ll heed the call to #MakeAmericaRockAgain, the folks at Run the Rock 2020 are dead serious about Johnson taking his talents to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

“The amazing enthusiasm and energy on the ground for Mr. Johnson prompted me to create the organization,” Tilford told CBS News. “The hope is Mr. Johnson will see how much America desires the real leadership only he can provide and jumps in the race.”

Although he hasn’t responded to the filing yet, Johnson did previously tell British GQ that running for office was a move he’d been considering.

“I’ll be honest, I haven’t ruled politics out. I’m not being coy when I say that, but at the moment I am not sure,” Johnson said. “I can’t deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring. And beyond that, it would be an opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives on a global scale. But there are a lot of other things I want to do first.”
