If you’re one of the only people left on Earth unfamiliar with Carole King’s catalog, she first started out penning hits for others, such as The Shirelles’ No. 1 single “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and The Monkees’ “Pleasant Valley Sunday.” She would find breakout success as a solo artist in the ’70s with her second album, Tapestry, which hit No. 1 and spawned a No. 1 single in “It’s Too Late”/”I Feel the Earth Move.” (It has since sold 25 million copies worldwide.) And it’s all been uphill since then.
Still highly relevant—a play about her life, Beautiful, is on Broadway right now—King is nothing short of a national treasure.
Besides her musical prowess, the music legend clearly has an eye for high-end real estate, as is evidenced by this 128-acre Idaho ranch that she recently put on the market. The price was recently reduced from $16 million to $9.9 million—but what you get for the value hasn’t lessened in the least.
Near Sun Valley, the five-bedroom, three-bathroom ranch includes amenities such as two fireplaces, a commercial kitchen, eight guest log cabins, thermal pools in a “cave” spa, and a six-stall horse stable. (A caretaker’s residence has an additional three bedrooms, one full and two half baths, and a stone fireplace.)
The real coup de gras of the property, though, is a free-standing professional music studio, with its own apartment above it (see above image). So if you start writing in the early evening and don’t finish until late into the night, you and your studio musicians can just head upstairs and crash.
