When your island’s name, Motu Tane, translates from Tahitian as “Man’s Island,” you know it’s fit for a king. The sprawling 9.6-acre island may lack a castle but serves as the ultimate tropical luxury hideaway with its string of thatched-roof bungalows that house a total of 13 bedrooms, accommodating up to 20 guests.

Motu Tane’s nine villas are designed and constructed in Tahiti’s traditional style. The 2,500-square-foot main villa offers two bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, library, and a dining area with chestnut accents. The master ensuite bathroom features an extra-large tub carved from lava stone.

Just a five-minute boat ride from the Bora Bora airport, Motu Tane’s location is an ideal blend of convenience and seclusion. White sand fringes the entire property, comprising one of the most pristine beaches around. To top it off, the Tahitian island offers spectacular views of Bora Bora’s mountains, providing an exotic backdrop for relaxation.

Formerly owned by French explorer Paul-Emile Victor, Motu Tane currently belongs to another Frenchman, Francois Nars. (He’s known for his eponymous makeup brand.) When the cosmetician purchased the land 16 years ago, the island didn’t have any electricity or running water, so he hired Christian Liaigre to re-design the entire layout. The result is a resort-like estate with a plantation of over 1,500 coconut palms integrated with native flora, offering a shady haven from the intense Tahitian sun.

Listed for $50 million, the property is available through Sotheby’s International Realty. To acquire your own island, click here. Behold more of it below.
