The Hamilton Roadshow Ticket Hack You’ve Gotta Know

Warning: Will cost you more than a few Alexanders

We already told you about a surefire method for snagging Hamilton tickets in NYC that doesn’t involve blood oaths or parting with a kidney.

Now there may be a way for out-of-towners to get in on the action.

In Chicago, where the first traveling version of the Broadway show will open in September, fall subscription packages — which obviously include Hamilton tickets — are sold out. This is the first time Broadway in Chicago’s fall package has been fully booked. As a result, many Hamilton-approved theaters around the country are recommending you buy subscription and membership packages (as early as a year out) to guarantee entry to the show when it rolls through town.

While some have criticized the practice, theater bosses are defending the move. “People have accused us of gouging, but it’s not gouging — if you want to be first in line, the best way to do that is to be a subscriber,” says Deborah F. Rutter of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.

The show is already scheduled to make additional stops in San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Costa Mesa, Des Moines, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle and Tempe. If you’re in or near one of those cities, you’ll probably want to sign up sooner than later.

It might cost you a suitcase full of Alexanders, but there’s your way into Hamilton.
