Google’s Data App Now Tells You Where the Nearest Wifi Hotspot Is

Still gotta ask for that password, though

To this point, “Yelp for wifi” has pretty much been … Yelp. Dig through enough reviews of a given coffee shop and you’ll get a feel for whether it’s connected to the internet. (Meaning actually connected, not four-laptops-log-on-and-it-crashes connected.)

Yet invariably, research on the go just burns the data you were hoping to save.

Enter Android app Datally, Google’s nifty data conservationist, which now offers a plotted map of wifi spots near you. Find your spot, take note of the network’s ratings and put your phone back in your pocket.

But it’s not the only great feature Datally has added to their offerings of late. Elsewhere: the ability to audit your unused apps (followed by suggestions on which ones you should uninstall), along with a tool that allows you to set daily limits on data usage, sending warnings along the way.

At the very least, you’ll be in the clear next time the phone bill posts and the entire family goes full Mexican standoff.
