Missing Four Limbs, Mountaineer Kyle Maynard Keeps Climbing

Kyle Maynard was born with congenital amputation. It left him with legs that ended at the knees and arms that ended at the elbows. Despite this, he decided he wanted to be a professional athlete. Incredibly, Maynard achieved his goal. A champion wrestler at the state level in high school, he went on to complete in mixed martial arts.

A Winner of the ESPY Award from ESPN, he has now turned his attention to mountain climbing. It’s a grueling task—Maynard notes the challenges include the fact that he had to design his own gear and, when climbing, he spends most of his time literally face down on the ground. Nevertheless, Maynard has persevered and even conquered Mount Kilimanjaro. Watch him climb in the video below.
