Beer.

It’s the proof, as they say, that God loves us and wants us to be happy, gassy and at least five pounds overweight.

It’s also excellent paired with food, which is delicious and helps you drink more beer.

And so, below, SF Beer Week’s five best beer events that also involve delicious eats.

Stout Beer Ice Cream
Michelin-starred chef Hiroo Nagahara presents four courses of contemporary Japanese cuisine, with a beer pairing for each supplied by his sake sommelier, Gil Payne. The finish? A stout beer ice cream. Nombe beer pairing with Hiroo Nagahara, February 7, 6:30

Barrel-Aged Beers and Foie Gras
Rare and barrel-aged craft beers plus a menu of foie gras, squab and smoked Mt. Lassen trout at the 1923 Elks Lodge, which looks like a Tudor-period nobleman’s hunting club. The Fraternal Order of Rare Beers Dinner, February 12, 7 p.m.

Five Beers, Five Cheeses
Five North Coast beers (including the beloved Old Rasputin) are matched with five domestic cheeses at the city’s best fromagerie. North Coast Beer and Cheese Pairing, February 12, 7 p.m.
