Boot Point

Boat shoe weather is coming to an end.

Only a few more ankle-bearing weekends of breezy lassitude to go.

Soon, you’re going to need some boots. More specifically, boots from the 130-years-young American brand Wolverine, just arrived on Elizabeth Street with their first “Company Store” outside their hometown of Rockford, Michigan.

Wolverine’s had a pop-up in the area for a bit, but now they’ve elected to lay down permanent roots designed by the Navy Yardsmen from BKLYN Dry Goods.

The shelves here are all repurposed from Wolverine’s original tannery, and the wares run from the style-forward No. 1883 Collection to the throwbacky 1000 Mile boots (this video on their construction is very much worth watching).

Our favorites: the wool-and-cowhide Seger boot (for jean-and-flannel days) and the two-tone Addison boot, sharp enough to round out a tweedy three-piece.

Speaking of which, Wolverine’s also stocking vintage Harris Tweed blazers alongside Tellason denim and waxed canvas Filson bags.

In closing, a brief note on this whole “American heritage” thing: no man should be slavishly devoted to trends, especially one that’s single-trendedly galvanized the market for beard combs.

But Wolverine’s a solid brand. Well-made. And truly American. They’ll sheath your dogs this fall and winter but good.
