Table Stakes

To keep tabs on every restaurant and bar opening is folly. But to keep tabs on the most worthy? Yeoman’s work, and we’re proud to do it. Thus we present Table Stakes, a monthly rundown of the five (or so) must-know spots that have swung wide their doors in the past thirty (or so).

August was all about the drinkin’.

Not that the city lacked for new culinary options, but libations took center stage.

On tap, quite literally, were raucous ale houses and gonzo watering holes. To wit:

  • A sprawling beer hall from the cats behind Smorgasburg, complete with eats from some of their most popular purveyors (#ramenburger)
  • A Lilliputian abode of brown spirits from the Brandy Library folks, as well as a delightfully wackadoodle watering hole based on last century’s most prolific horror writer
  • A new breakfast sandwich Xanadu in Nolita — because you’re gonna need something to help that hangover

All that and more to close out your summer properly stuffed and inebriated.

So dine on. And drink well. Enjoy the guide.
