A New Leather Strap Can Turn Any Analog Watch ‘Smart’

Your Rolex now counts steps. Hooray?

Sure, that handsome, five-figure timepiece on your wrist makes a statement.

But does it offer exercise tips?

Making your time count: Geneva-based horologist Frederique Constant, who just introduced the E-Strap, a leather strap that turns your fancy, dumb watch into a smart, savvy, 21st-century ticker.

A buckle extension covered by a leather band, the E-Strap works in tandem with an app to track your activity, monitor sleep and offer “coaching” and alerts for personal wellness (also, not to be confused with Montblanc’s similar but more brand specific E-Strap).

The battery lasts for a week, and there are currently 13 different colors of strap available, with preorders starting at $249. They’re expected to ship in May.

Count on it.
