SOCIAL MEDIA EDITOR (New York, NY)

We’re looking for a good man guy or lady person to run our social media channels.

Must write well.

Must be intelligent, curious, and personable.

Must live and breathe Instagram, Twitter, Vine, LinkedIn, snapface, pinwhatever, and other platforms that the person writing this is too old to understand.

Must have experience running social for a brand.

Must be dedicated and enthusiastic.

Must not get pissy when dealing with petty frustrations.

Must treat people with extraordinary decency.

Must be courteous to old women and kind to pets.

Must have interesting hobbies.

Must call their mother regularly to let her know they’re ok.

Handsomeness is a bonus, but not required.

Would be nice if you had ESP.

If you’re this man guy or lady person, then you’ll enjoy managing our social media channels.

We’ll expect a lot from you.

And you, despite the playful tone of this job description, will be a dependable and professional social media operator.

You’ll talk to our readers.

You will not “engage” with our readers, because that’s a term that marketing apparatchiks use to neuter something that’s actually quite wonderful, i.e., basic human-to-human connection.

You will measure our social performance and figure out what’s not working, then fix it.

You will need to be familiar with paid media on social channels.

You’ll have awesome ideas about new things we should do.

You’ll report to the Executive Editor, who’s a pretty good guy, except when he skips breakfast.

You’ll use your eye for the lifestyle trends, products, and services that appeal to successful men.

We're a magazine for men, so you need to be into writing for successful men. (Not frat dudes, although some of them can be quite lovely people.)

Please have a sense of humor.

Be down with taking editorial direction and comfortable with adapting your writing style accordingly.

Be positive.

Be organized.

Be able to work under tight deadlines.

Be charming.

Be cool.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the InsideHook brand to our social audience
  • Assume full responsibility for social content; plan and write great content that is actionable and relevant to  InsideHook readers• Measure our social performance across platforms

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years work experience, preferably in a daily publishing editorial environment
  • Cultural fluency, wit, and charm
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Keen eye for writing details, including grammar and punctuation

InsideHook offers a competitive salary, health benefits, and an exciting, fast-paced work environment that, if nothing else, produces fun job descriptions for our web site. No actually, it’s pretty great here.

To apply, send resume, a brief cover letter (for God's sake, don't be boring), and links to writing samples to hello@insidehook.com. Subject line: SOCIAL EDITOR. You may include humorous GIFs, but only if you can back up the humorous GIFs with your own insight, poise, and intelligence.
